Black & Decker Rice Cooker
The Black & Decker Rice Cooker range is not extensive, with only two basic traditional automatic rice cookers available, the RC 400 and the RC 550. Your options are broadened a little if you consider the Flavor Scenter Steamer range, which can be used to cook rice, but were principally designed to steam food.
The RC 400 Black & Decker rice cooker is about as basic as you can get, but is consequently relatively inexpensive, often being available for less than $20. There is nothing fancy here, the 7 cup cooking pot is not non-stick, there is no steamer tray and the lid is tempered glass rather than an air tight locking type. But the absence of these features does not stop this cooker from cooking great rice, it just makes cleaning up a little more difficult and cuts down on the versatility of the appliance. If you cook a lot of rice you are unlikely to be happy with this unit in the long term, if on the other hand rice is not a big part of your diet and only need the cooker occasionally, it will do a fine job.
The RC 550 Black and Decker rice cooker is a 10 cup model that does have a non stick pan but in all other respects is much the same as the RC 400.
Many people consider using one of the Black and Decker Flavor Scenter models, there are three of them, the HS 800, the HS 900 and the HS 2000, as rice cookers. While it is possible, there are a couple of major drawback to this plan. First, the cooking process is not automatic as the steamer is controlled by the timer, and secondly the actual cooking process can take up to twice as long as with a normal automatic rice cooker.
