Microwave Rice Cooker

If you too have a 5 cup or larger rice cooker you may have encountered similar problems to mine, that is cooking small quantities of rice in a big cooker. If you have ever tried it you will know that the results are seldom satisfactory.

One solution would be to buy a smaller rice cooker, but in my case the situation arises so infrequently as to not warrent that course of action. What I have found works wonderfully is a microwave rice cooker.

My microwave rice cooker is similar to the Joyce Chen model featured here and is ideal for the times when you only want to make one cup of rice.

It doesn't save any time, as the whole process still takes about 20 minutes, similar to what cooking rice in an regular rice cooker does, but it does produce better rice than small quantities cooked in a large cooker and it does cut down on waste.

Plus of course you can put it to uses that regular rice cookers are not designed for, such as popping popcorn.
