The first step in choosing a Zojirushi rice cooker is selecting the appropriate size for your needs, remembering the cup sizes quoted are of uncooked rice which will at least double in size when cooked.
5 cup and 10 cup rice cookers are popular sizes and there are plenty of models with different features to choose from.
Features to look out for include lock tight lids or glass lids, cool touch exteriors, built in retractable cords and condensation collectors on the traditional rice cookers. For the Fuzzy logic rice cookers the models differ by the number of different types of rice they are programmed to cook.
The latest Zojirushi rice cooker to hit the market is the NH-VBC18. As well as having menu setting for white, sushi, brown, semi-brown, mixed, sweet, porridge, rinse-free and quick cooking rice, it has a GABA Brown Rice Activation setting available to activate brown rice for increased nutritional value.
Rice Cooker tips
The starch and powder on raw rice is the main cause of rice sticking and
burning on the bottom of the rice cooker bowl. Rinse rice in warm water until
the water runs clear and you should have no problem with burning or sticking
rice.
Although their are over 40,000 known varieties of rice they can all be classified
in one of only 3 categories - long grain, medium grain or short grain rice.
Long grain rice contain the least amount of starch while short grain rice
contains the most.
